Alvaro’s Baptism

This November brought a special surprise.  I was using a new research tool from the LDS Church.  The new tool identified the baptism record of Alvaro Trujillo, son of Rafael Trujillo and Hijinia Reyes.  As it turns out, Alvaro was baptized in the town of Mapimi, Durango, Mexico.  Mapimi is just about 40 miles Northeast of the twin cities of Gomez Palacio and Torreon. From the record we also know that he was baptized April 21 1890. Currently, Louie Albidrez has taken the information from the record. He has ordered the microfilm from the LDS Church to gather more information about Alvaro’s birth and baptism from the record.

Significant Events In Their Lives

Significant events occurred during the lives of Lucas Antonio Trujillo and Maria San Jose Vasquez.

In 1773, the Boston Tea Party occurred.  In 1775, the American Revolution began. In 1776, the US Declaration of Independence was signed. In 1790 The Aztec Calendar stone was found in Mexico City. In 1803, the USA purchased a large section of land from the French as part of the Louisiana Purchase. In 1808, Napoleon dethroned the Spanish king. This stimulated political unrest throughout the Spanish empire. In 1810, El Grito de Dolores called for insurrection against the authorities of Mexico. This call for Mexican independence was given by Miguel Hidalgo on September 16, 1810, in the town of Dolores, Guanajuato. In 1817, the Inquisition ends in Mexico. Also in 1817, the Metropolitan Cathedral in Mexico City was completed. Also in 1817, The Indian Wars began between the Indians of North American and the USA. In 1821 Mexico wins independence from Spain. In 1821, Moses Austin received a land grant from Mexico to settle Anglo-Americans in the Mexican state of Texas. In 1824, the Constitution of 1824 establishes the Republic of Mexico.

Lives of Lucas and Maria

In this issue we discuss the lives of Lucas Antonio Trujillo and Maria San Jose Vasquez. They are the great-grandparents of Rafael Trujillo, husband of Hijinia Reyes. Lucas Antonio Trujillo was born on October 18 1772 and was baptized on October 24. 1772. He was born at the Hacienda Cienega de Mata to Juan Manuel Trujillo and Juana Bonifacia Nepomuceño Cedeño. Lucas Antonio was from a large family, one step-brother and nine brothers and sisters.  Maria San Jose Vasquez was born on September 19 1783 and was baptized October 5 1783. She was born at the Hacienda de la Tinaja to Jose Damaso Vasques and Maria Anna Josefa Rosales. Maria San Jose Vasques was an only child. They were married on August 22 1804 in the city of Aguascalientes at El Sagrario Church. They are known to have had at least seven children. Those children were Balentin, Maria Leandra, Eugenio, Ygnacio, Jose Fermin, Ciriaca, and Luterio. Balentin is known to have married Macedonia Morales from La Barranca on Feb 15 1832 in Aguascalientes and had one child. Maria Leandra is known to have had two children by an unknown father. Eugenio Married Antonia Mesa on October 31 1832 and had five children. Ciriaca is known to have married Rafael Garcia on Feb 28 1835 in Aguascalientes and had 7 children. Ygnacio and Maria Hilaria are the parents of Lucas Antonio and grandparents of Rafael Trujillo. They had 6 children including Lucas Antonio Trujillo. According to the marriage record of Lucas Antonio and Maria San Jose Vasquez, they were Indians. This is odd since his uncle is known to have been a Spaniard. I suspect that the priest only assumed that they were both Indians due the color of their skin. This is a common occurrence that I have found in my research.

Lucas Antonio was born four years before the US Declaration of Independence and lived to witness Mexico’s declaration of independence and the independence of both he US and Mexico
